Ga Traditional Council ban all forms of noise making in Ga State ahead Homowo Festival

The Ga North Traditional Council declares Monday May 6, 2024 to Thursday June 13,2024 the ban on all forms of noise making in Accra and its environs as the Gas prepare for the Homowo festival.
The President of the Ga North Chiefs and
Queen Mother’s Association (GNCQMA), Nii Kortey Boi II, Ofankor Mantse made this announcement on April 29, 2024 in a press conference at Ayalolo Bus Terminal, Ofankor

According to the statement, the Homowo festival commence with “SHIBAA”, the cleansing of sacred farms which began Monday April 29, 2024 and the ban of drumming and all forms of noise making which has today Monday, 6th May, 2024, the “NMAA DUMO”.
He said, “The ban on noise making include the use of loudspeakers, drums, tambourines, clapping of hands, and the use of any
other musical instruments within the Ga State, such as holding of funeral rites and no merry
making”.
Nii Kortey Boi II also said, the period
is for fasting and prayers for favorable rainfall, abundant harvest, and
blessings to Ga State including Ghana and the people to continue fostering in peace and love,
tranquility and positivity.
Therefore, “All worship centers must
confine their activities within their church premises. Roadside evangelism,
mounting of speakers in public spaces such as mosques, funeral rites should be
avoided in respect of the Ga tradition”, he added.
He said there will be taskforce including
Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies and the Ghana Police Service to
aid and monitor the ban on noisemaking to ensure people compliance with
traditional regulations and failure to adhere to the order will lead to
prosecution.
Again, he stated that the lifting of the
ban on noisemaking will be on Thursday June 13, 2024.
Attendance at the press conference were the
Ga North Traditional Chiefs and Queen Mothers, Executives of the Ga North
Municipal Assembly, Muslim leaders, the media and the general public.
