The Secretary of State for California, Her Excellency Shirley Weber, travels to Ghana with a 35-member delegation.

Her arrival was warmly welcomed by a team from the Ga North Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Simons Sekyim.

The two officers' historical meeting was an initiative by the Municipal Chief Executive when they met at the California Parliament in the USA.

The Honourable Sekyim, who has vowed to change the fortunes of the municipality in collaboration with both local and international partners, spoke with the media.

"We visited the US last year in California, and then we had the opportunity to visit their parliament. After the session, we met the Secretary of State, and already she had planned on coming to Ghana this year, so we had a lot of discussions with her, and she showed interest in visiting Ga North Municipality", he said.

"The Secretary of State is responsible for their elections, and she showed interest in our Ghana Card because when you go to the US, their Green Card doesn't have a lot of features as compared to the Ghana Card, so she's here to learn how we manage to bring our birth certificate, passport numbers, SSNIT, and everything together", Mr. Sekyim added.

Her Excellency Weber commended the efforts of the government on the economy and digitalization. She was impressed with the features of the Ghana Card and wants to replicate it in her jurisdiction.

"To look at your election system, we are looking forward to the others, as well as the processes that were made on a host of things within your municipality", she said.

"Ghana has changed a lot in the last 25 years since I first started coming here, and I was impressed with your ID card, the ways in which you vote, and all kinds of issues."

"I know you have a whole lot of things to tell and share with us about what you've done in the last 2, 3 years to take this amazing country, really making it easy for people to do business and also to be part of what's going on here", she added.

The tour is set to start on November 22nd to 24th, 2023, at the Ga North Municipal Assembly, the Municipality, including Ayawaso Wulomei, for a briefing on the history behind the  Ayawa-Tree and the Shrine, the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point and the Interchange at Pokuase, Saint Johns Grammar Senior High School, the Electoral Commission's office, and the National Identification Authority's (NIA) office in Accra.
