Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance praises Ghana Revenue Authority for hitting revenue target last year

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Customs Division Wednesday January 26, 2022 celebrated International Customs Day, Accra. In a speech read on behalf of the Finance Minister Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, commended GRA for their marvelous performance last year 2021 by meeting their revenue target of Ghc 57.3 billon.  He said the ministry will continue to support to implement and enhance the work of GRA and Customs Division. Customs Division The occasion that brought different stakeholders together was on the theme, "Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem". "GRA is building a data warehouse system that would integrate data on taxpayers from internal and external for Ghanaians and beyond", Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr Ammishadai Owusu-Amoah said.  The International Customs Day (ICD)  began Wednesday January 26, 1952 mandated to raise awareness about the importance of customs authorities and their role in shipping.

Accra: Ministry for Works and Housing swear-in new board Members for Tema Development Corporation (TDC)

The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye Bataman MP has swon-in 7 board members appointed by President Nana Addo Dwankwa Akuffo Addo for Tema Development Corporation (TDC), January 25, 2022. The swear-in happened in the ministry conference hall. The mandate of the board is to provide strategic direction and guidance to TDC in its planning and policy implementation. "TDC over the years was exhausted it's mandate to provide accommodation for those engaged in economic activities", the Minister said. "Subsequent to that the government in 2017 converted TDC from a corporation to a Limited Liability Company to expand its mandate to operate beyond the Tema acquisition area". According to Hon. AFCON 2022 CAMEROON: Dozens of people injured and 6 dead in a stampede

Sad news hit in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon as stampede caused the lives of fans, 6 dead and more than 40 hospitalised. "The incident happened as supporters struggled to troop into the stadium to cheer their teams", an official said Monday. Naseri Paul Biya, governor of the central region of Cameroon said, "The here could be more casualties. The stampede happened as crowds struggled to get access to Olembe Stadium in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde to watch the host country play Comoros in a last 16 knockout game in Africa's top soccer tournament". Officials nearby Messassi hospital said that they received at least 40 injured people during the stampede. "Some of the injured are in desperate condition," Olinga Prudence, a nurse said. An endemic may exist in a population but does not necessarily affect large number of people and destroy society as compared to a pandemic. Mark Woodhouse is a professor for infections disease epidemiology, University of Edinburgh said that, "Don't expect Covid to fully disappear in any of our lifetimes. Instead, it will eventually reach a period similar to several other illnesses, where most people will be infected". "That's the situation we're heading towards. Omicron is another dose of virus. We will all be on average less susceptible to disease having had that dose, or having had the vaccine", he said. Update: Minister for Lands and Natural Resources orders investigation into Bogoso-Apiate Explosion

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon. John Abu Jinapor has asked for investigation into Bogoso-Apiate Explosion and has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Mineral Commission to suspend the license of Maxam Limited, a mining services contractor. “Further, the Hon Minister has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, with immediate effect, to interdict the registration of Maxam Company Limited with the Minerals Commission, thereby precluding the company from the manufacture, transportation, and/or supply of explosives for mining operations,” portion of the press statement said. Apiate on Thursday January 20, 2022 faced an unfortunate tragedy of a truck explosion carrying Dynamites for supply to Chirano mining company. Apiate truck explosion has left a deep Man-whole on the road 60 people injured, 42 receiving treatment and 17 confirmed dead.

Ministry of Education: Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum restores trimester system

Dr Adutwum, Education Minister The ministry of education has retreated the semester-based system to the normal three terms. The decision came by yesterday after meeting with stakeholders of education. Basic school academic calendar for the year for kindergarten, primary and junior high school begins January 18 to April 14, 2022 for first term. Vacation is between April 15 to May 9, 2022. The Second term starts May 10 to August 18, 2022 and vacates August 19 to September 12, 2022. The third term is between September 13 to December 22, 2022. The students are to spend 14 weeks in school. This was revealed in a press release by Felix A. Baidoo, Pres Secretary, January 21, 2022. 

Bogoso-Apiate Explosion: caution to "come to see people"

Bogoso-Apiate Explosion Bogoso-Apiate in the Western Region, yesterday had a tragic day. A whole community was raised down due to a blast of a truck carrying explosives. According to report, 13 people have died, 60 people injured and some displaced. Background A truck driver that was sent to supply explosives (Dynamites) for a mining company met an accident on the road. A Sprinter vehicle that had knocked two people on a motorcycle. The Sprinter driver escaped, the truck driver that saw the incident swerved the victims on the road. He drove farther, stopped and saw that the truck was on fire. Knowing well what he carried asked those around to runaway but they refused and came nearer to capture the incident. The truck finally exploded. This affected an electricity transformer that made the explosion worst. Achiato: Health Center to begin work January 2022

Director of the Ga North District Hospital, Ofankor, Dr. Nhyira Easel has disclosed to IG-TECH MEDIA NETWORK December 31, 2021 that the Achiato Reproductive Health Center will begin work January, 2022. "Currently where we're, we are starting with VC and Family Planning", she said. Dr Essel made this known in an interview with her when IG-TECH MEDIA NETWORK tried to find out why the health facility that was commissioned, December 3, 2020 is still not in use. The Achiato Reproductive Health Center has been to a standstill due to lack of fund that the Assembly has not been able to provide to purchase the needed items to run the hospital. According to Dr. Essel, Ghc 20,000 will complete everything, both chippings to fill the compound and the remaining items. Dr Nhyira Essel also added that though other donors have supported in buying some of the items but if the requested amount is released or achieved, the hospital can run fully.
